A group of villagers have volunteered to adopt their local station to make it better for everyone.
The Alvechurch residents have now been given a formal safety briefing by the West Midlands Railway (WMR) line manager and are ready to get to work on projects local people would like to see.
These include such ideas as artwork, information displays, planting, and so on.
Initial funding is coming from the Worcestershire Community Rail Partnership and the national Community Rail Network.
Larger projects could be eligible for a grant from WMR through the Connecting Communities funding (in late 2021) and from various Department of Transport grant pots.
A spokeswoman said: “Our plans are still quite preliminary, but we hope to start with some weatherproof display boards, to show some of the artwork from Alvechurch & Bordesley Nursery School, which is housed in the old station building, as well as to provide information about local walks and places of interest and the history of the village.
“We also are exploring some planting in and around the station, and possibly some permanent art.”
The group currently has representatives from the nursery, Alvechurch Village Society, the county National Garden Scheme, a district councillor and at least one young train enthusiast.
“We are keen to get more local people involved, to add ideas into the mix,” said the spokeswoman.
