Picnic to mark VE Day

Alvechurch Picnic in the Park now has its official logo, chosen from entries into the annual competition. Local children were invited to create a design in red, white or blue or with a VE Day theme, as the event is being held on Saturday May 9 alongside national celebrations for the 75th anniversary of VE Day.

The organisers were delighted with the number of entries, and would like to thank all who participated. The winning design was created by nine-year-old Evie (right).

Villagers are now being asked to create poppies and Union flags to be displayed at the entrance to The Meadows on the day. They can be knitted, drawn, papier-mached. . . anything you can think of.

As in previous years, there will be a full entertainment programme of music, dancing, food and activity stalls, including the ever-popular pig roast, crepe stall and bouncy castle. The Dog Show is at 11am, before the entertainment begins at 12 noon. From 5pm, the Cricket Club hosts more live music, karaoke and family fun.
