Mayflower sinks

-

It is with the deepest regret that I announce the closure of the Mayflower Over 60s Group in Alvechurch.

Supported by the Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (later to become the Royal Voluntary Service), the Mayflower Club has been meeting in Alvechurch on a weekly basis since the 1950s for a few games of bingo, a great deal of friendly chat, plus tea and biscuits.

Because of the average age of the group’s members, ill health and terminal illness have decimated our numbers. Increasing room rental costs have also helped to force our closure.

This was an extremely difficult decision for us to make but our move to Alvechurch Village Hall came too late.

With an average weekly attendance of eight to ten members, the club could no longer be run on a viable financial basis.

I would like to take this opportunity to give my heartfelt thanks to all members, past and present, for your incalculably valuable support.

Thank you all for your friendship and Janet and I look forward to seeing you at Silver Threads Club in Alvechurch.
