June started as May finished, with periods of rain, nearly all of it occurring up to the 10th. High pressure dominated into the later part of June, keeping the weather warmer and more settled.

May had been another month with above-average temperatures, with a mean of 12.4C, 0.9C above the local mean. We also had rainfall of 97.2mm, well above the local average at 175% of the 30-year average.
A storm and heavy rain broke out at about 6pm on the 24th, with two or three lightning strikes locally and a short power cut.
During this period 29.3mm of rain fell; one of the wettest 24-hour periods this year.

Outlook
Will it be a hot summer? The short-term outlook into early July seems much more settled than the last few months.
However, there is every chance of the high pressure block breaking down later, returning us to the usual mixture of rain, sun, warm and cold – the usual British summer.
