Driver’s lucky escape in lorry ‘hit and run’

-

A lorry pulling out of a Hopwood side road collided with a small car sending it spinning on to the other side of the main road, according to police.

The woman driving the Ford Ka escaped with minor injuries as the lorry failed to stop and drove off.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 6.30am this morning on the A441 at the junction with Lea End Lane, close to the Westmead Hotel.

A spokesman told The Village: “An articulated lorry, which was pulling out of a junction, was in collision with a grey Ford Ka travelling on the A441 from Birmingham towards Redditch.

“The lorry collided with the side of the Ka, causing it to spin around in the road and end up on the opposite side of the road.

“There was a considerable amount of damage to the side and front of the vehicle. The lorry, which is likely to have visible damage, carried on towards the West Midlands.”

The Ka driver complained of chest pains and a knee injury. She did not require medical treatment at the scene, but later went to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham for a precautionary check up.

PC Richard Field of West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact him on 0300 333 3000 quoting incident 39-s-040112 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
