The peaceful environment at Westall Park

You may have heard of “natural”, “woodland” or “green” burial, but are not entirely sure of what it is. The concept is an ecological burial or interment of cremated remains, within a peaceful, countryside environment.

There are now more than 200 natural burial sites over the UK, and it is becoming a much more popular alternative to conventional burial.

Westall Park is just south of Redditch and Bromsgrove, next to the picturesque villages of Inkberrow and Feckenham. Arguably one of the best located and most successful woodland burial grounds in the UK, it is situated on rising ground with stunning views of the Worcestershire countryside.

Westall Park offers an altogether more personal experience than a conventional cemetery; you can choose the area of burial you would like (there are various choices), and often the exact spot. There is also the option to reserve the plot next door, or in some cases families have bought up several plots to ensure they can all be buried next to each other.

The land is unconsecrated so any religion is welcome, and the funeral can take any form the bereaved would like. Westall Park works side by side with funeral directors so you will receive the best service possible.

Headstones are not permitted; instead wooden plaques are available to order – these are made on site. After burial the policy is to let nature take care of the grave. Only wild flowers are allowed to be planted, which makes for a beautiful sight. In the summer the grass is left to grow long, with mown pathways, turning into a spectacular wildflower meadow.

All this makes for a wonderful atmosphere which leaves one feeling uplifted. The most often heard comment from visitors is that they do not feel as if they are in a cemetery, but in a peaceful area where people can while away the hours sitting on benches or bring blankets in the summer – some even bring picnics!

Many visitors also comment that they wish they had known about Westall Park before, but unfortunately they have heard about it too late for their particular situation.

The gates to the Park are open seven days a week, so do feel free to visit any time. If you would like to make an appointment, Amy and Dan are always available on weekdays to show you around and answer any questions you may have.
