I have just finished reading an article in this month’s edition of The Village, about the Parish Council halving their grant to St Laurence Church towards the upkeep of the churchyard from £1,000 to £500.
As a regular visitor to the cemetery, I am appalled. It breaks my heart to see the place where my family are buried so overgrown. We regularly have to cut a path through waist-high grass to attend the grave.
My mother, who is 85, can no longer be taken as she is unable to make her way through. It is nothing short of a field with headstones.
Is this the way they show respect to past residents of the village, people who made the village what it is today – and to all those that will end their days there, is that what they can expect?
