Traffic plan could cut village in half

-

May I comment on the “Stop the Traffic” plan in May’s Village magazine: I agree with limited traffic in the village, and signs stating “no way through Alvechurch” at all approaches to the village including Robert’s Corner and the Redditch end of the bypass.

Several miles would be added to a journey to Redditch by car, using any of three ways:

1) Scarfield Hill – Grange Lane – bad in winter; could bridges take extra traffic?
2) Radford Road, Rowney Green, The Holloway – bad in winter; would Rowney Green welcome extra traffic?
3) Join traffic jams on bypass!

Then there would be more traffic using School Lane travelling back from Redditch – it’s narrow and very bumpy and very bad in wet and icy weather. As well as similar problems for people using Radford Road and Old Rectory Lane, which is also too narrow.

This is just local village people using these routes. This plan could cut the village in half, but would be safe for pedestrians and quiet for the village. Would it kill trade?

Would people from Swan Street be able to access proposed car parks on their side? Would people drive through these car parks from Radford Road to Swan Street?

Is there a way to identify village cars and their visitors so they can continue on the main road through the village?

Many people enjoy driving, as I do, but unfortunately today it’s becoming increasingly frustrating coping with varying low speed limits, humps in the road, speed traps and speed cameras everywhere.

People in the village need their own transport; it’s their freedom, especially the elderly and disabled.

People cannot afford the speed fines and extra maintenance these measures cause. People cannot rely on local transport and their freedom is being eroded away.

I hope my comments are useful.
