What better time than the Christmas season to experience the romance and nostalgia of a great railway adventure?

Past-Time Rail, a family-run company that aims to make train journeys fun and exciting, offers both steam and express excursions to various UK destinations – and this winter there’s the chance to travel to Edinburgh and Chester from local stations.

The Edinburgh day-trip takes place on December 4, with a pick-up at Barnt Green station at 7.05am. Travelling through diverse and beautiful scenery, the express train arrives in Edinburgh at 12.05pm, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the sights, the culture and of course the Christmas shopping! Festive events at this time include a German-style market and an open-air ice-rink.

On December 18, you can experience a grand old steam journey aboard the Christmas Chester Chuffer, departing from Birmingham International at 9.50am. Mulled wine and mince pies, a festive quiz and a VIP appearance will get everyone in the party spirit as the train makes its way along the West Coast Main Line, passing though Lord Lichfield’s Shugborough Estate.

After a two-hour stop to enjoy the history and shops of Chester, the ‘Chuffer’ briefly pops in to Wales and then travels home via rural Shropshire.

On the Edinburgh trip, passengers can choose to travel standard class (£38), first class (£68) or Premier Dining class (£135), while the Chester excursion offers standard class (£60) or Premier Dining class (£138). Concessions for juniors.
