Rewarding young achievers

-

Alvechurch Parish Council is launching a Young Achievers Award to recognise the talents of village youngsters.

Coun Pete Smith told The Village: “We know there are lots of kids in this parish who do all sorts of amazing things and no one gets to know about them. We just thought it would be nice to recognise their achievements.

The award is open to anyone aged under 21 and offers a prize of £100 and a trophy. The aim is to recognise any kind of achievement, for example through voluntary work, or sport or overcoming a disability.

Nomination forms will be available at the Parish Council office, the library and village schools and the closing date is November 1.

The award is another example of attempts being made to engage local teenagers. A youth “club” has continued to meet successfully at the Meadows through the summer, but is now looking for an indoor base for the autumn and winter.

The highlight of their activities so far was “B48 Active-8”, when more than 300 young people enjoyed a range of events, including hot air balloon, in the Meadows.
