The Alvechurch Acoustic Roots team celebrate the start of their tenth season.

This year is the tenth anniversary of Alvechurch Acoustic Roots (AAR). We would like to take this opportunity to thank our fantastic audience for supporting us for so long, and also the many talented performers who have entertained us during our first nine seasons. We would love to see new folk attending either as audience members, or even performing artists.

Alvechurch Acoustic Roots was the phoenix that arose from the ashes, when the legendary Slim Pickins band called it a day, after many years of “electric” gigs upstairs in Alvechurch Social Club.

AAR gigs are still held upstairs in Alvechurch Social Club, where we try to create an intimate ambience, with a new, low, stage that connects well with an appreciative audience. We now have a great team of “roadies” and technicians who control AAR’s lighting, sound, promotion and management.

We also have a mailing list which is sent out each month informing our audience of the line-up for the next gig. You can get on this list by emailing us (see below).

Our focus has always been on “keeping music and performance live” in Alvechurch and the surrounding areas. To this end we provide a stage for the numerous local acoustic solo artists, duos and  acoustic bands. We also try to include one non-music act at each gig such as local poets, and story tellers. Performers play their own material, or covers from other well-known artists, and sometimes bring along their CDs which our audience can purchase if they wish.

The Stompies are the AAR House Band, and are a seven-piece acoustic group, comprising two vocalists, two guitars, a bass, fiddle and melodeon. Their first CD, No Stompy On Sunshine, is still available. You will find it on Spotify, or the band’s website. You can also see the band perform three songs from the album on YouTube. Search for “The Narrowboat Sessions–The Stompies”.

The band have had more than 20,000 people listening to each of these three tracks. Their second CD provisionally entitled Water Not Wine will be available for Christmas.

The next six AAR gigs are on Fridays September 27, November 1, December 13, January 31, February 28 and March 27. Doors at the Club always open at 7.45pm for a prompt 8pm start. It costs only £5 to get in (£4 concessions), and the bar is kept well stocked! All door money goes towards the upkeep of the considerable amount of equipment, recording and the support of local charities.

If you would like more information, or would like to perform at one of our AAR gigs, please get in touch: email paulchamberlain8@gmail.com, visit https://www.alvechurchacousticroots.co.uk or find us on Facebook.

We would love to see you in the autumn. Keep Music and Performance Live!
