Village’s ‘fallen angel’

Following complaints over the cutting down of the village Christmas tree in November, two further festive mishaps befell Barnt Green, councillors heard.

Parish clerk Gill Lungley reported that a lorry had bashed into and damaged one of the Christmas lights designed by village school pupils, leading councillors to dub it “the fallen angel”.

If it was not repairable, another design competition may be arranged with the school.

Meanwhile, a “Find Santa and his Helpers” shop window trail also ended in disarray when one of the reindeer, Prancer, went “missing in action”.

“People couldn’t fully complete the trail, but the ones who did their best won a prize anyway.”

Parish chairman Robert Cholmondeley agreed that it was “not very good timing” to remove the tree just before Christmas, and asked for ideas to make the remaining trees stand out in 2019.
