Remembering Robin

I read with interest an article written in 2012 in your publication about an Alvechurch resident, Robin Walden. It explained that he died in December 2011 but that an apple tree was to be planted in his memory at the Weighbridge pub.

I wondered if this is the same Robin who is remembered on a bench at Alvechurch Marina with the words “Rest, Relax and Remember our friend Robin”.

I ask because back in 2014 we were visiting the Marina with my parents – and my dad, also named Robin, spotted the bench and told us to take a photo of him sitting on it.  “You can use it at my funeral” he said jokingly – he always had a wicked sense of humour!

Sadly my dad passed away in September just gone and true to his wishes we used his photo at the service. The photo is now one of our favourites of Dad and we’d love to find out more about the original Robin. Our Robin, my dad, was a retired farmer from Beoley.

So, is this bench indeed inscribed to the memory of Robin Walden?
