Snow lands parish with fun run bill

-

An unexpected spring snowfall forced the cancellation of Barnt Green’s Sport Relief fun run and cost villagers up to £500, parish councillors heard.

Executive officer Gill Lungley said the bulk of this sum was for the rental of portable toilets, traffic cones and the printing of posters and banners.

It was hoped the additional £297 spent on medals for people taking part would not be wasted if the organisers, Barnt Green Chuggers, rearranged the event for later in the year – and if they didn’t have “March” inscribed on them.

Councillors agreed that if it was rearranged they would foot the bills again.

Meanwhile, the parish has saved the cost of a new smart phone thanks to the knowledge of new, teenage councillor Sam Harris.

After an information session with communication officers at Bromsgrove District Council, parish councillors decided they– would set up a social media presence, but believed they would need a modern mobile phone to do this.

Coun Harris pointed out that it would be easier to use the office laptop computer to post information on social media platforms – and save money.

The parish council agreed they would follow his advice and enter the social media world via laptop.
