The Village area has everything you need for a Christmas to remember.

By the time you read this, there will be some early birds who just haven’t been able to resist putting their Christmas decorations up before December has even started (certain Village staff among them).

But whether you love to keep the festive season going for as long as possible, or you believe in only dressing the house a few days before Christmas Day, there’s one thing most of us have in common – the Christmas tree will be the centrepiece of the decorations.

If you’re in the “Christmas starts in November” camp, you’ll definitely have a plastic tree, as a real one wouldn’t last that long.

But if you’re happy to wait a bit longer, you can choose to bring a real tree into your home. In this semi-rural area, there’s no shortage of places to find one.

For instance, there’s Hopwood Garden Centre, whose range of Nordmann “non-drop” trees mean you’ll have fewer needles to pick up!

All sizes can be netted for easy transport, and the centre also stocks a choice of potted trees, fairy garden ornaments and soft fruit trees if you’re looking for a gift for a garden-lover.

There’s also Fee’s Trees, which offers British-grown premium quality Nordmann firs with free local delivery – plus a free handmade tree decoration for children (one per tree; subject to availability).

Singletons Nurseries has a great selection of Christmas trees, as well as plants, gardening-related gifts and homeware – while its on-site restaurant, The Potting Shed, is preparing to celebrate with various seasonal events to get you in the festive mood.

In the Christmas Grotto, children can visit Father Christmas and Mrs Claus, while the Christmas Lunches include a festive meal accompanied by carols from the Arrow Vale Singers.

If you’ve left your Christmas shopping a bit late, there’s no need to panic – Tony’s Handyman in Barnt Green is bursting with attractive kitchen and homeware for great gift ideas.

From seasonal textiles and ceramics to special glassware for all those party drinks, there’s sure to be something to suit even those hard-to-buy-for people. You’ll probably end up treating yourself to something too!

Don’t forget that there’s also a range of Christmas lights, and essential items like logs, coal and rocksalt – plus snow shovels and sledges in case the forecasters are correct in their predictions of a white Christmas!

If you’re in the market for a larger gift, either for someone else or for your own home, Pools & Gardens have a choice of hot tubs and spas from Villeroy & Boch, ready for delivery in time for Christmas.

Imagine relaxing in the warm water in the privacy of your own garden, perhaps sipping a glass of fizz and watching the first flakes of snow begin to fall. . . almost like being on a winter holiday!

Speaking of holidays, you might be jetting off somewhere for Yuletide – maybe getting some winter sunshine, hitting the slopes or curling up in a cosy country cottage – or perhaps you’re staying at home, catching up with lots of family and friends and doing the rounds of parties for Christmas and New Year.

Either way, you’ll want to look your best – and the team at Bliss Hair Therapy can help you do just that.

As well as hair styling with the latest techniques, the salon also offers beauty products including the super-trendy Glitter Lips for a glamorous and affordable party look. And don’t forget the selection of present ideas, including GHD and L’Oreal products, stocking fillers and gift vouchers.

Finally, remember that all those parties and Christmas get-togethers, with lots of food and drink and wrapping paper from all the presents, generate a lot of household waste.

Make sure you check your council waste and recycling collection dates, and look out for changes due to snowy or icy weather.
