A guide to getting on and off the train

-

With regard to access for all at Barnt Green station, I would like to expand on what Coun Cholmondeley has stated in Village News (November 2017).

Once Bromsgrove’s electric services start, for step-free access one should be able to depart for Birmingham from Platform 1 at Barnt Green (aside Fiery Hill Road) three times per hour if all electric trains stop there.

Returning from Birmingham, for step-free access one should take a Redditch-bound train and alight on Platform 4 aside Barnt Green station car park.

Accessing Bromsgrove and Redditch, however, does present problems for those requiring step-free access as Platforms 2 and 3 will not be directly accessible without provision of lifts.

Of course, all of this will still be inconvenient for those in wheelchairs who need to depart and arrive on the same side of the railway.

In mitigation for not providing lifts, I do hope Network Rail and the train operating company make these possibilities clear to passengers once the new services commence.

The train operating company will need to provide the familiar portable yellow ramps on Platforms 1 and 4.
