Springing into action!

-

Sarah Rees reports from the Oakalls and Parklands.

Next spring should produce a greater abundance of golden daffodils on the estate, thanks to county councillor Kit Taylor.

Coun Taylor has provided funding from the County Divisional Community Fund for a second bulb planting event, following the initial one held almost six years ago, in December 2011.

Weather permitting, the planting of the daffodil bulbs will take place on The Oakalls and Parklands on Saturday October 7 with help from the 10th Bromsgrove Brownie pack. The 1st Finstall Brownies will be planting bulbs at Harwood Park on Saturday October 21.

The project will help the Brownies as they work towards achieving their Community Badge.

If you are interested in joining the bulb planting teams, on either date, please contact Coun Caroline Spencer on 01527 832414 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for further information.

FINSTALL DEFIBRILLATOR
There will soon be a defibrillator at Finstall First School, giving the local community access to this important equipment 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

A defibrillator is proven to be one of the most important tools in saving the life of someone suffering sudden cardiac arrest.

The defibrillator will be attached to the front wall of the school in a locked box. To access the equipment you will need to call 999 and you will be given the code to unlock the box.

This facility is the result of a successful application for funding from Bromsgrove District Council’s New Homes Bonus Grant for 2017/18.

The application was made by Juliette Fleming, a Parent Governor at Finstall First School, with the support of Coun Caroline Spencer. A grant of £1,000 was awarded towards the cost of this project.

The defibrillator will potentially help people within 500 metres of the school and this would include Harwood Park, The Parklands and some parts of The Oakalls.

The box installation and supplementary work is scheduled to be carried out early this month.

CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY GATHERING
This year’s community gathering will take place at 6.30pm on Sunday December 17. More details will be provided next month.
