Wassailing through the Lickeys

Wassail

A larger-than-ever crowd of revellers descended on the Lickey Hills for the annual Wassail, which took place on a clear dry evening and offered fun for all the family.

The entertainment began at the Visitor Centre with Appalachian dancers and music by Bob Bignell, before the 120-strong crowd processed to the Community Orchard in the Lickey Hills Country Park, led by head ranger Steve Hinton.

Traditional elements included songs, poems, and a Mummers Play written by Steve and featuring ‘Humpty Trumpty’, who wanted to build a wall through the orchard to separate Birmingham and Bromsgrove!

The crowd made lots of noise to keep the Devil away and ensure a good harvest.
