A roarsome event

-

Thanks to all those who supported the reopening of The Meadows in Alvechurch as a football facility and in particular, a very big thank you to the efforts of Alvechurch Parish Council for the many hours they have spent making this happen.

A special mention must also go to Ron Rand who has been a big help in getting the pitch ready for this season.

We look forward to seeing many local children representing the Lions over the years to come and hope other sports can take advantage of a reinvigorated facility.

It was fitting that it was a lovely morning for the opening, and we appreciate the involvement of Sajid Javid MP and his family.

Another positive from the day was that with the support of Precise Mortgages we have made a donation of £300 to Fin Church’s aim to raise £20,000 for the Big Bandage appeal.

Fin, who is 10 years old, is an Alvechurch Lions FC fan and ex-player, and was admitted to Birmingham Children’s Hospital on June 17 with a suspected abscess located on his brain.

Following brain biopsy surgery on June 18, Finlay was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour, and had major brain surgery to remove the tumour. In August he began a 14 month series of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and clinical trial treatments to prevent the tumour from coming back.

We have all been massively impressed by his determination to raise £20,000 and will continue to think of ways we can help him achieve this.

Alvechurch Lions FC
