Celebrations at Weighbridge

Campaign for Real Ale members have voted The Weighbridge in Alvechurch as their Worcestershire Pub of the Year 2008 – the first from Redditch and Bromsgrove to win the accolade.

CAMRA said the beers were in superb condition and members were impressed by the character and individuality of the canal-side freehouse, as well as the good value home-cooked meals on offer.

Locals and CAMRA members from Redditch, Bromsgrove, Worcester and Droitwich were present to share in the celebrations (above) when Worcestershire CAMRA Area Organiser Charles Ayres congratulated licensees John and Jayne Humphreys.

The pub, which won the Redditch & Bromsgrove CAMRA title in both 2005 and 2007, is now short-listed for the CAMRA West Midlands Region Pub of the Year 2008.

* The Weighbridge is holding a beer festival on September 19-20.

* CAMRA is to make a special presentation to Phil and Sheila Meades to recognise their 40 years at the helm of The Coach & Horses at Weatheroak. During that time they won Redditch & Bromsgrove CAMRA Pub of the Year four times in a row.

* The Coach & Horses is holding a beer festival on October 17-19.
