A silent minority

Alvechurch Parish Council’s chairman would have us believe that funding has been halved for the maintenance of the churchyard (The Village, June 2007) because this comes from the public purse.

Well, excuse me, but who on earth does he think the residents of this parish are, if not members of the public?

Furthermore, the council surely knew that this was the case when it first agreed to the amount of £1,000 being allocated.

Why doesn’t the chairman admit that the real reason for reducing the grant is to save money and that the churchyard has been chosen because its inhabitants can’t fight back?
