Parish cuts tax bill for third year

-

Alvechurch Parish Council has cut its tax demand on villagers for the third year in a row – this time by 2.87 per cent.

The total tax asked for by the parish – the precept – this year is £58,500, compared with £83,667 in 2004.

The parish council says it has cut its spending by identifying places where it was effectively paying again for services that could have been provided by Bromsgrove District Council – such as the Tanyard Lane public toilets – and handing responsibility back to Bromsgrove.

Alvechurch parish chairman John Puckering said: “We strongly believe that residents are now contributing on a value-for-money basis for the additional services we provide as a parish council.”

Barnt Green has kept its precept at the same level as last year, while Lickey & Blackwell has seen a 21.21 per cent rise.

Cofton Hackett’s has risen by 2.5 per cent, Tutnall by 5.1 per cent and Finstall by 5.09 per cent – although all of the last three are from a relatively low base.

The lowest precept is, of course, Lickey End, where the council spends nothing and has asked to be abolished.
