Disabled drivers penalised

-

I would like to alert other disabled motorists to the new charging policy in Bromsgrove after being given a £60 parking fine even though I was displaying my Blue Badge and timer.

I drive all over the country and have never come across disabled motorists being charged for parking in a disabled bay – yet in the Windsor Street car park in Bromsgrove town centre, disabled motorists now have to pay.

I could have used my badge to park in Windsor Street on the double yellow lines using my allowed two hours on my Blue Badge, but on seeing the space thought it better to pull off the road. What shall I do in future?

I queried the charge with Bromsgrove District Council and was told it was introduced last year to pay for the Shopmobility scheme in the town.

Unfortunately, the only reason I had to come into Bromsgrove was that after many years of dealings with Lloyds Bank in Barnt Green, it closed, leaving people like me and many others having to go into the main towns for our banking.
