Shaping your village

-

People power in the form of “Parish Plans” is starting to gather momentum across the area as villagers put together blueprints of how they want to see their communities develop.

Alvechurch is getting close to a completed plan, while Barnt Green is now looking for ideas from villagers.

Meanwhile, Lickey and Blackwell have decided a plan is “so necessary” they are resurrecting an initiative begun last year, although at first they are preparing a basic “in house” plan for later consultation.

The Alvechurch plan is being co-ordinated by Gill Lungley, who told The Village: “Most of the consultations have been carried out and now the writing-up has begun on the Parish Plan for Alvechurch, to be named Alvechurch Tomorrow.

This is the blueprint for the parish council to follow telling them what concerns Alvechurch residents and how they can help to solve them.

“For instance, when asked, many residents voiced concerns about crime and lack of security so one of the solutions would be to help reactivate Neighbourhood Watch schemes.

“We hope to complete the document by the end of July so there is still time for residents and businesses to add comments on anything concerning quality of life in the parish.“

Meanwhile, Barnt Green Parish Council has formed a steering committee to prepare a Parish Plan. The committee is holding an Open Day on Saturday May 21 at the Friends Meeting House to give villagers the opportunity to give their views.

“For the plan to have real value it is important that as many local residents as possible have their say, so the steering committee is hoping for a really good turn-out,“ said a spokeswoman.
