Rugby Rhinos honour MP

Julie and Rhinos

Bromsgrove MP Julie Kirkbride visited Kings Norton Rugby Club together with Alvechurch ward district councillors June Griffiths and Roger Hollingworth to see the progress made by the under-13s youth rugby section, known as the Rhinos.

The MP was presented with replica club shirts (right) for herself and her young son by head youth coach Paul McGlynn, supported by youth coaches Matt Eagles and Ken Whitehouse.

All three are members of the first team and were thanked and congratulated by the visitors for their dedication and hard work in setting up this thriving section of the club.

Coun Griffiths added that she was pleased to see local boys from Hopwood and Alvechurch getting involved and having such obvious fun at the friendly and ambitious club.

Coun Hollingworth added his support to the venture and said that, as a former player himself, he understood the great benefits for young people getting involved in sport at an early age.

The first senior team, who play in the Rugby Football League North Midlands (South) One, are the only club in the Bromsgrove area capable of reaching the play-offs in the league, currently sitting in third position and having won nine out of 14 games.
