A look back at what was happening around here in December 1999.

December 1999 / January 2000 was a combined edition, starting the tradition for covers showcasing a year’s worth of Village life.

IN THE NEWS:

Staff at Hopwood Park Services were being filmed for a “fly-on-the-wall” television show called Motorway. In Alvechurch there was a heated debate over the installation of CCTV cameras, while The Village asked if readers had information about a brothel that was supposedly in Barnt Green in the 1970s. . .

*  A youth football team in Alvechurch was one of the initiatives created by Bekah New, youth and children’s worker appointed by St Laurence Church. The team for eight to 12-year-olds was coached by Pete Gwilliam and had already enjoyed an outing to Villa Park.

*  Brownies Amber Fay, Katie Smith and Louise Brookes and Brown Owl Janet Lee (1st Cofton Brownies), plus Guider Diane Freeman and Guide Amy Freeman (3rd Lickey Guides), celebrated both groups’ 40th birthdays.
