Worzel drops in

Worzel Gummidge was the guest of honour as St Leonard’s Church in Beoley held its annual summer fete, this year with a scarecrow theme.

Scarecrows of all shapes and sizes filled the churchyard, with a competition for the best-dressed scarecrow, and an old open-topped Land Rover delivered Worzel and Aunt Sally (played by Michael Morris, proprietor of The Nursery Shop at Crabbs Cross, and his niece) to the crowd of several hundred visitors.

There was entertainment from Beoley First School and the Worcestershire Players Group, plus displays by Beoley Village Hall, Beoley Stitchcraft and Beoley Mothers Union, and the event raised more than £5,500. Organisers thanked all participants for their generosity.
