A sea of bluebells at the bottom of Cofton Hill in the Lickeys made the cover of our May 2009 edition. Inside, there was a preview of some of the local gardens soon to open under the National Garden Scheme.
IN THE NEWS:
Flashing speed signs across the area had confirmed that the majority of motorists were speeding through the area, in an unofficial survey by The Village.
Meanwhile, in Blackwell the old Methodist church on Greenhill was up for auction, and a consultation was due on the abolition of Lickey End Parish Council.
Well-known villager Lily Houghton had retired from Alvechurch Pharmacy after 38 years as a healthcare assistant. She was pictured with colleagues Keith Baxter, Fiona Smith, Tracy Vaughan, Leah Yendell, Gillian Stock and Andrea Warder as she said goodbye to the place where she had worked since 1971.
A schools rugby tournament hosted by Hopwood clubs Kings Norton RFC & Five Ways RFC featured expert coaching advice from former England captain and British Lion Jason Robinson (pictured, left, with KNRFC club president Ron Bunce).
