Organisers of the Alvechurch Picnic in the Park have announced that this year’s event will be officially opened by Professor Sir Keith Porter.

Village resident Professor Porter is the UK’s only Professor of Clinical Traumatology, and has been at the forefront of developing world-class treatment for injured military servicemen and women over the past 10 years. He was knighted in 2010 for services to the Armed Forces.

The picnic takes place on Sunday May 26 and begins with the dog show at 11am, followed by the main event from 12 noon. There are 10 acts in the line-up for the stage entertainment and more than 50 food and activity stalls including the ever-popular pig roast, face painters and bouncy castle.

Then from 5pm you can head over to the cricket club for more live music, karaoke and family fun.

Raffle tickets are now on sale: prizes include a £100 voucher for At Home with Lou, Day Boat Hire from ABC and a season ticket to Alvechurch FC. The organisers are grateful to all the raffle prize donors.

There is still time to construct a speed machine ready for the Go-Kart Challenge, which sees teams competing to receive the prestigious Challenge Cup. More details, rules and online entry form can be found at https://www.alvechurchpicnic.org, where you’ll also find full details about the Picnic – or see social media.
