A haven for pollinators

-

The creation of a “pollinator-friendly” patch in Barnt Green is due to begin this month, with wild flowers and grass planted to attract insects.

Resident Rachel Banner was asked to represent the parish council at the Worcestershire Pollinators Conference last year, and later helped to identify a suitable site near the mini island at the end of Hewell Road.

Sowing and planting was originally going to take place last autumn, but bad weather and an injury to Rachel’s back meant it had to be delayed.

The ground has now been prepared ready for work to begin on April 1, with Rachel assisted by current and former parish chairmen Robert Cholmondeley and Alun Davies.

If this trial is a success, it is hoped that other patches can be created – and a “pollinator corridor” linking Barnt Green with Cofton, Lickey and Alvechurch.
