M42 victim still a mystery

Police are still trying to confirm the identify of a man who was killed on the M42 at Alvechurch last week and have now issued a picture in the hope that someone will recognise him.

A photograph of a distinctive key fob has also been released as officers seek information about the man who was on foot when he was hit by a lorry on the northbound carriageway at about 10.15pm on Monday, 16 December between Junctions 2 and 3.

The man, who was of Middle Eastern appearance, is thought to be have been aged around 40. He had brown eyes, a black goatee beard and short, black receding hair.

He was wearing black jeans with a black leather belt and silver coloured Thomas Burberry buckle.  Under his jeans was a pair of black tracksuit bottoms.  He was also wearing a navy blue, heavyweight denim jacket, a dark coloured jumper with a white vest underneath, and black Puma slip-on trainers.

Two Yale keys on a pink key fob were found on the body.

Inspector Sion Hathaway said: “He was someone’s son, brother or father and it’s extremely sad to think that just a day before Christmas his family is totally unaware of this tragedy. To date we have been unable to trace anyone who knew him.

“Our inquiries so far would suggest that he may have been living in a hostel in the Sparkhill or Acocks Green area of Birmingham. We have CCTV images of him from a visit he made to a local medical practice but he subsequently failed to turn up for an appointment.”

Inspector Hathaway added: “We have a possible name but none of the staff at the hostels we have checked recognise that name and no-one of his description has been reported missing.

“It’s a real mystery and we would appeal to anyone who recognises him or the keys he had with him, or if they think they know who he might be, to get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”
