Baby boom for Paper Mill swans

-

Swan family

Listen out for the patter of tiny webbed feet at Paper Mill in Redditch, where a brood of cygnets has recently hatched.

After the death of the former resident pen (female swan) in March, at the start of the mating season, it seemed unlikely that there would be a new batch of cygnets this year.

However, a new pen appeared in April and paired up with the lonely cob – and now they are the proud parents of three cygnets, with three eggs still to hatch.

Local amateur photographer Paul Wilde, who visits the ponds on his daily walks and provides updates on the swans’ story, described it as “a joyous day!” and sent us these pictures.
