How many birds will you spot?

Village weatherman Phil Thomas counted the different birds he saw in his Alvechurch garden over 2010 and compiled the list below, with a total of 44 species.
  We wonder if anyone can count more in their garden over this year – or if anyone sees any unusual birds. Let us know.

Cricketer Dougie Brown and his singer wife Amelia are hosting two charity fundraisers at village venues. The Finstall couple, already training hard for this year’s London Marathon in April, are holding a curry night in Barnt Green and a karaoke night in Lickey.

We have been berated for suggesting in our last issue that the voters of this area will always be blue – and have even been told that we helped June Griffiths to get elected as the county councillor for Alvechurch division by suggesting that the outcome was a foregone conclusion.

Grit gripe 2

Sir – Immediately before the snowfall in December the County Council removed the grit bin at the junction of Ten Ashes and Groveley Lane, Cofton Hackett, along with the bin at the end of Chestnut Drive.

Fish fears allayed

A number of Villagers have contacted British Waterways expressing concern over the effect on fish of the new walkway at the dead arm of the canal in Alvechurch.
